Appco Philippines volunteers to help Typhoon Haiyan victims
Two branch managers from Appco Group Philippines volunteered to help local fisherfolk who had been affected by Typhoon Haiyan.
Maymay Quinto and Rezhene (Shin) Madrinico gave up their time to help the fisherfolk re-establish their livelihood after losing their bancas (indigenous canoe-style boats) in the typhoon.
The ‘Bancas for the Philippines' project, launched by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), has provided the local people with fiberglass boats, which are designed for rougher seas and are lighter, more durable and easier to make.
Maymay Quinto said: “The fishermen shared their sad stories with us about losing their families, homes and their livelihoods. But even though they had been through so much, they still managed to smile, work together and help each other get back the life they used to have, which is so inspiring.”
Rezhene (Shin) Madrinico added: “It’s definitely helped me appreciate what the fishermen do and it has made me realise there is always hope for tomorrow.”
