TV show inspires the fun in Appco USA office
One Appco Group US office is going to extra lengths to promote a positive atmosphere, using the children’s game show Fun House for inspiration.
In an effort to keep the focus on fun, White Plains office manager Tim Rose has brought the obstacle courses and trivia competitions from the 1990s British and US television show off the screen and into the office.
“At the end of the week, it takes the pressure off. When we’ve worked hard all week, it’s time for a bit of fun,” he says.
“On ‘fun Fridays’, I do something like hide a staff member, and everyone’ll have to go find them, or a Fun House where you have to run to the admin desk, work out an anagram then run through the office, go under the table, do another lap, run to find an envelope or something like that,” he says.
And it seems to be paying off.
The office recently celebrated a record week of sign-ups for the charities it represents.
In true White Plains style, the occasion was marked with an office trip to Playland, an amusement park with the opportunity to barbeque by the sea.
“If you don’t have a positive attitude, you lose motivation,” Tim says. “If you’re out talking to members of the public, you need to have enthuiasm.
“It’s really important to encourage that sort of spirit.”
Even developing product knowledge is an interactive experience at White Plains, following the installation of an ‘Information Station’.
“Keeping up to date with the charities we’re representing is so important. If people are struggling, then it’s good to have as much information as possible to freshen up their presentations.
“I relay research to field representatives myself, and the ‘Information Station’ at the back of the office is a place where they can look for material themselves.”
